Hood Lift Support Replacement
1.
Open hood and hold in fully opened position with an auxiliary
prop or have an assistant support the hood while the lift
supports are being removed and installed.
2.
With a small flat blade screwdriver carefully pry up the retaining
clip on the body end of the lift support. (FIG 1)
3.
After retainer clip is lifted or removed the gas spring should
pull off of the ball stud. (Slight adjustment of the hood
up and down may be required to release tension on the lift
support)
4.
Open the retainer lock on the shaft end fitting by sliding
the small rectangular piece towards the shaft. (FIG 2) Rotate
lift support to release from mounting ball stud.
5.
Remove new lift supports from packaging and wipe shafts with
clean paper towel. To ensure the longest life expectancy of
your new gas charged lift supports it is recommended to periodically
clean the lift support shafts with a clean paper towel or
cloth rag to keep debris and contaminants from damaging the
seals of the lift support. Do not use chemicals or solvents
on the lift supports.
6.
Raise hood about 3 inches to allow the longer length of the
new Lift Supports to install easily. Reverse procedure from
step 4 to install. Do not attempt to remove fittings from
ball studs without first releasing locking mechanisms.
